A division of General Motors, Buick made its distinction by being the oldest active car brand in the United States. Known for its upscale and high-end vehicles, Buick sells over a million cars worldwide each year. Although the brand is revered for its style and performance, it’s unlikely that every single Buick will come off the assembly line in perfect working order. If you feel that your Buick is a lemon, or you’ve been through a Buick recall, continue reading.
No matter how open and shut your case may seem, Buick manufacturers will often argue against your right to a Buick lemon buyback or replacement. Go out to the mailbox and find a card with a recall notice for your Buick recently? It might not be the first you’ve received, and it’s not uncommon for any automobile brand to issue numerous recalls in a given year for their models. It can be easy to overlook these cards and put it off until your next service date, but it’s in your best interest to investigate further and have the recall corrected as soon as possible. Recalls can vary from the minor to the urgent, affecting anything from windshield wipers to power steering. Regardless of the issue, a recall is considered warranted when an owner has a defective vehicle and it’s of the utmost importance to take them seriously.
But how exactly does a recall come to be? When a company begins to see a pattern in service reports that show aspects of their vehicles malfunctioning at unexpected rates, they investigate the issue to try to uncover what’s happening with their vehicles. They’ll parse everything down to the factory level, pinpointing exactly which vehicles were affected based on the date of manufacture. From that point, owners will be contacted and notified of the recall.
What’s required of vehicle owners then? Typically nothing but showing up to the dealership with an appointment. Automobile makers are very willing to correct recall malfunctions free of charge for their customers to ensure that their vehicles are operating safely. The best option for an owner to do is reach out to a local dealership, inform them of the recall, set an appointment and have the vehicle tuned up and back on the road.
For Buick vehicle owners, here are some examples of recent Buick recalls that may be currently affecting your vehicle…
Approximately 8,700 Buick Regal sedans from 2018 are being recalled by General Motors due to misrouted rear seat belts. The issue is said to date back to a miscommunication between engineers and assembly workers on proper installation instructions for the rear seat belt, preventing rear outboard seat belts from properly restraining passengers in Buicks. This can prove dangerous and potentially fatal in the event of an accident, and thus requires the attention of owners to immediately have the recall inspected and corrected. The recall affects 2018 Buick Regal sedans built before February 22, 2018, at which point the problem was identified in the factory and corrected on future models.
A small number (less than 1,000) 2018 Buick LaCrosse sedans are part of a General Motors recall. The problem stems from the high-pressure fuel pump in some models detaching from its mounting flange, which could, in turn, result in damage to the high-pressure fuel line. This can create a fuel leak, increasing the chances of fire to occur.
If you’re the owner of any of the Buicks that are part of these recalls, follow up with your local Buick dealer and be on the lookout for future Buick recalls!
