What does “Reasonable Attempts at Repair” mean for your Nissan?

In Nissan lemon law, the Nissan manufacturer has the opportunity to make a reasonable number of repairs before your Nissan is claimed a lemon. While lemon laws differ from state to state, in California a reasonable number of attempts have been made if:

  • You’ve tried to fix a warranty problem four or more times with no luck.
  • You’ve tried two or more times to fix a problem that could cause death or bodily harm.
  • The problem has put your car out of service for more than 30 days.

Nissan Recalls

Not every faulty car that’s driven off the dealer’s lot is a lemon. Sometimes, errors are made during a car’s manufacturing, and it affects tens, hundreds, or even thousands of those models sometimes over several model years. When that happens, and a considerable number of cars don’t perform correctly under required safety standards, the Nissan manufacturer will often issue a recall.

When a recall is issued, the Nissan manufacturer will specify what the problem is, which cars were affected, and what action consumers need to take in order to get their cars repaired. Typically, recalls are issued by model and model year, usually by each car’s specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Sometimes, the defects won’t cause any serious issues and won’t be a cause for concern for consumers. But occasionally, defects could pose serious threats to driver and passenger safety. Manufacturers will let drivers know if they need to bring their cars in immediately, or if they can bring them in at their earliest convenience. The one positive about having your car included in a recall is that the manufacturer will fix any issues free of charge.

Even though Nissan is the sixth largest automaker in the world, even they aren’t immune to manufacturing defects that lead to recalls. Over the years, several Nissan cars, trucks, and SUVs have been recalled for everything from brake issues to missing labels to being included in the Takata airbag issues that have affected multiple Nissan manufacturers.

  1. Nissan recalled over 150,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada because of an issue with the ignition switch that could cause the car to shut off while in motion.
  2. Over 215,000 Nissans, including the Murano, Maxima, and Pathfinder from 2015 to 2018 were recalled due to possible leaks from the anti-lock brake pump that could result in a fire.
  3. Around 105,000 Nissans were recalled as part of the Takata airbag debacle.
  4. The automaker recalled 483 Titans and Titan XDs from 2016 to 2018 for missing an important about the truck’s load-carrying capacity.
  5. The 2017 Juke was recalled for an issue with the brake master cylinder that could leak fluid into the brake booster.
